Wikis

I had heard of wikis, especially wikipedia , but was not sure on how they worked, I think they are a wonderful tool, for Libraries and keeping up with all that is happening within the enironment one is in.

I also think that a wiki would be great for Local Studies, the Local hisotrical society in collaboration with the library would create a wonderful resource for local history info.

Then there is the children and Young adults who could have a wiki dedicated to them and library matters.

Thanks for your thoughts on wikis. I think the local angle would be a good one and a great place to start.
Thanks too for the book club story,
Kathleen

Hi Shirl

Wikis are great to use collaboratively for many areas of library services. We use one very successfully for the childrens and youth services dept to have our ideas in one place and also as a way to centrally store our policies and procedures so they can be accessed anywhere.

For local studies, I think a great idea is to haave one established where members of the community can reminisce about things they remembered - can you imagine the wealth of information that would gather!?

great blog Shirl

cheers
