Week 12 Social networking

Well all good things must come to an end as the saying goes. I have thoroughly enjoyed doing this exercise. I have learnt a lot. Some applications such as second life I would not use but I have realsied the benefits of web 2.0 for libraries. I have really enjoyed keeping a blog and also wiki answers. I am addicted to wili answers.

Thanks for all the effort that you all put into this program.

Week 11: Online applications and tools

I am amazed at the amount of free applicationa that are available from the net.Zamzar is to me particulary useful in that I can convert word documents into PDF with it. I originally signed up with Web2.0 out of curiosity and did not expect to learn so much and enjoy the journey that this has taken me on.

Week 10: Mashups

My creation

I have had fun with big huge labs. The above jigsaw was created from this. I took the picture from the balcony of Junee Historical Museum. I had wondered what mashup was. I discovered what it was before this week as we are getting a new LMS at work and our OPAC will be a mashup of designs. YAY!

I have also created a calendar for May, using big huge labs, The photo is Monte Cristo house in Junee, supposedly has seven ghosts in it,
My creation

In the library environment this could be used in childrens activities.

Podcasting

I always assumed that Podcasting meant that you had to have an IPOD to listen, so I never went there. (Please don't laugh. This is a 57 yr old remember)

I have had a heap of fun ever since discovering I can listen on my computer. I have been listening to http://www.heart1032.com.au/. Its a story on one of the announcers who went to Haiti for Compassion and then when the food riots began the whole team had to get out fast! I have listened to several that were suggested in this weeks Podcast, but have been finding a host of others to listen to as well.

A good time waster, am not sure what benefit it would be to a library unless one podcast author talks.

Week 8

I have thouroghly enjoyed this week. tatse.com.au is a good site full of intersting ideas. I was already familiar with Yahoo 7Answers, Today I answered two questions on http://wiki.answers.com/. One was whether eculyptus kills rodents and no it does not. The other was how many sons did Ishmael have? That answer is found in Genesis 25. He had 12.

I have had real fun with this, this week.

Week 7

Just had a look at week 7 and surprise. surprise I have also been using web 2.0 in another application for about a year and that is Library Thing. I am amazed at the amount of applications that I have been using for some time are web 2.0 technology. I am pleased to find that technology wise I am not as far behind the eight ball as I first thought. Not bad for some one who is almost 57! Yeah I know I will have to widen the doorways soon for my head to fit through. LOL!

You Tube, Google Video

I have had fun with this, but also had difficulty embedding this into the blog.

This is from you Tube entitled "dont get caught working from home" It appealed to my whacky sense of humour and no, despite the picture this is not rude.

Wikis

I had heard of wikis, especially wikipedia , but was not sure on how they worked, I think they are a wonderful tool, for Libraries and keeping up with all that is happening within the enironment one is in.

I also think that a wiki would be great for Local Studies, the Local hisotrical society in collaboration with the library would create a wonderful resource for local history info.

Then there is the children and Young adults who could have a wiki dedicated to them and library matters.

Homeless men book club

What a great idea this is. Must give the men an identity of self worth.
